St Paddy’s Day 8K and Kilt Run Race Report

I’ve been wanting to do this race for a while but I wasn’t quite sure about the kilt thing. They came out with a very cool medal this year, though, and that pushed me over the edge. I went ahead and got a kilt and came out for this. But, since it was the day before my early season half marathon, I decided to take it very, very easy.

We did the kilt run first and unfortunately didn’t have enough people to break the Guinness World Record. Oh well, it was a nice little warmup.

We then lined up for the 8K and I really tried to keep it slow. I’ve been doing most of my runs this year between 9 and 10 min/mi. For this one I ended up at 11:17 min/mi so I think I did fairly well. Raleigh is very hilly so that was a factor too. But I finished in 56:09, spent some time at the expo afterward, signed up for the Octoberfest 8K (the virtual version since I’m busy the day of the actual race) and then headed on to Wilmington to get ready for my half marathon the very next day.
